DESCRIPTION:Duality symmetries\, such as the T- and U-dualities of string a
nd M-theory\, can impose constraints typically associated with supersymmet
ry — without introducing additional degrees of freedom. To set the stage
\, I will give a brief introduction to generalised geometry\, and double a
nd exceptional field theories — duality-covariant frameworks that geomet
 rise O(d\,d)- and E(d)-group\, of T- and U-duality.\n\nBuilding on this\,
I will explore the constraining power of these duality symmetries through
two examples. First\, I will present a novel derivation of the constraints
that the T-duality group O(d\,d) places on the NS–NS supergravity actio
n\, using deformation quantisation of differential graded manifolds. Secon
d\, I will show how an E(d)-covariant phase space approach can be used to
derive a brane scan for the standard half-BPS branes of string and M-theor
y\, and give a unified form to their dynamics.
