DESCRIPTION:Quantum entanglement characterizes the complexity of many-body
states: its moderate scaling with the system size allows wave function com
pression\, enabling classical tensor-network methods in equilibrium. In th
is talk\, I will introduce a notion of temporal entanglement\, which quant
ifies the non-Markovianity of a quantum bath and quantum dynamics. We will
explore the scaling of temporal entanglement in integrable and chaotic sy
stems and argue that for several relevant classes of problems\, moderate t
emporal entanglement allows us to significantly compress a quantum bath\,
establishing some rigorous bounds along the way. Based on this insight\, a
whole new family of efficient methods out-of-equilibrium can be developed
. These methods\, in particular\, are capable of capturing critical dynami
cs in multi-orbital impurity models out-of-equilibrium\, and\, more broadl
y\, provide a new lens on the complexity of many-body phenomena.
