DESCRIPTION:Certain universal aspects of confining flux tubes in gapped con
fining phases are naturally described within the framework of Effective St
ring Theory (EST)\, regarded as the effective field theory of Goldstone fi
elds living on the worldsheet traced by the string. Motivated by the neces
sity to extend this framework beyond this universal sector\, we consider t
he dynamics of confined strings in a medium with vanishing mass gap. This
study is performed for the concrete example of the CP1 NLSM in d=4 dimensi
ons and make a precise quantitative computation of the leading deviations
from EST for the case of two observables: the ground state energy and the
effective width. We also comment on proposed UV completions of this model
in terms of strongly coupled gauge theories.
