DESCRIPTION:We explore the physical implications of Doplicher–Haag–Robe
 rts (DHR) superselection sectors in two-dimensional Conformal Field Theori
 es from the perspective of topological defect lines. We begin with a brief
  review of DHR endomorphisms in Algebraic Quantum Field Theory. We then sh
 ow\, using Quantum Information tools\, that the constraints imposed on the
  spectrum by modular invariance are equivalent to the absence of DHR super
 selection sectors\, which can be understood as a precise notion of complet
 eness of the theory. Building on this observation\, we describe how local 
 subalgebras of a modular-invariant theory\, whose endomorphisms form a mod
 ular tensor category\, can be realized as invariant sectors under the acti
 on of the fusion ring of topological defect lines\, with the same fusion r
 ules. Finally\, we discuss applications of these ideas to the definition o
 f selection rules for Renormalization Group flows.
