DESCRIPTION:I will describe an approach that relates classical gravity to t
he quantum micro-structure of spacetime\, in which the gravitational field
equations have the same conceptual status as the equations of fluid mechani
cs or elasticity. This\, in turn\, implies that it is incorrect to think of
cosmology as a part of GR\, described by a specific solution to gravitatio
nal field equations. Instead\, the new paradigm brings to the centerstage t
he information content of the quantum spacetime and relates it to the dynam
ics of the universe. The value of the cosmological constant is then related
to the amount of cosmic information accessible to an eternal observer. In
fact\, this relation allows us to determine the precise numerical value of
cosmological constant\, thereby providing a novel solution to the cosmologi
cal constant problem. I will highlight several aspects of the connection be
tween the gravitational dynamics\, the information content of quantum space
time and the evolution of the Cosmos in this talk.
